Finding the right fit requires the right process.

Christy Haven, M.Ed.

Christy Haven has an extensive background in admissions at Seattle-area independent and private schools — and a deep understanding of what those schools are seeking from applicants.

In an admissions career spanning more than 15 years, she served as Admissions Director for St. Thomas School, and most recently, Giddens School. There, she guided more than 150 families of fifth-graders through the middle-school admissions process. Mina Velamoor spent 15 years with Microsoft leading global product management teams and building insightful technology solutions for big data needs across product lines. Her expertise with data driven decision management helped steer product development for some of Microsoft’s leading businesses through a combination of creativity and collaborative leadership. Through her time at Microsoft, she found her passion, working with youth, and left Microsoft, to build career pathways at a college prep program where she created pathways across STEM, medicine, law, humanities, business, and entrepreneurship. She has worked with students from middle school through college and in their careers to identify coursework, complete passion projects and internships, and create a strategy for a college application in a field they are passionate about.

She discovered that students achieve their flow state when they are challenged to meet a cherished goal through a process of self-discovery, advocacy and agency. She uses this framework in combination with aptitude testing to help students find their purpose through school, college and their careers. Through community connections, Mina finds key opportunities for students to complete internships, conduct research and find authentic ways to connect their academic pursuits with capstone projects. She helps students craft essays that truly represent their character with anecdotes through their high school years. She dives deep into how best they like to spend their time working on what they love. Her signature method helps students find colleges and careers that are the right fit for them and present authentically to college admissions committees and employers with great results.

Through college, Mina helps students prepare for interviews, polish their resumes, find mentors and coaches in their field of choice and prepare for the marathon of life and career.

Mina was part of the founding team that established career pathways for health care in Washington State in partnership with UW, Seattle Children's and Kaiser. Mina is also an active member of the community & serves on the board of the Virginia Mason Franciscan Foundation, Pitch Your Peers, Seattle & Columbia Hospitality. She most recently served as director of BoardReady, an organization that catapults board diversity through data, experience and thought leadership and is a regular speaker at the Women Board Directors Development Program at the University of Washington Foster School of Business.
